2009 VW Tiguan – Hitch and Yakima Hold Up Installation

7 03 2009

Today we had a new VW Tiguan in for a hitch and bike rack combination. The customer wanted to carry 2 cross country mountain bikes and wanted something easy to load. There are a few options for a hitch on this vehicle, we decided to go with a Curt Hitch that didn’t require any cutting of the fascia and it’s designed to be hidden under the bumper for better looks. There is no drilling involved so the hitch can be removed if it’s a lease vehicle.

The easiest way to carry a range of different framed bikes easily is to go with a tray style bike rack that grabs the front tires to hold the bikes in place. The one we installed today is the Yakima Hold Up, a heavy duty rack that can hold bikes up to 60lbs and you can load a bike in about 10 seconds. It also comes with a security cable that can lock the bikes and rack to your car.

When not in use the whole thing can fold up against the back of the car. This rack is at the top end of hitch rack design and has made it possible to carry any frame of bike easily. The only accessory you may want to add would be the Hitch Lock that secures the rack to the vehicle. The rack comes with Yakima’s lifetime warranty but it’s pretty much bomb proof anyway.
